Requirements
I am looking for non-fiction (reviews, essays, maps, flags, guest interviews, etc.) to host on my blog that will be published between my videos. All submissions should be be at least 500 words long, but I will accept longer works. Please include any pictures and links you would like me to use.
If you would like me to include a bio in the post, please limit it to only a couple of sentences that I can add to the bottom of the post. We are not paying for submissions, but we will promote your alternate history work in your post.
I can be flexible about when the post is published, but I prefer to publish new content at 11 am or 3 pm CST. Additionally, posting and promoting my videos will take priority over your guest post, but I will try not to reschedule your posts if I can avoid it.
Send submissions or questions to ahwupdate at gmail dot com if you are interested.
Guidelines
I am primarily looking for alternate history guest posts, but I will accept steampunk, dieselpunk, historical fantasy, counterfactuals, time travel, parallel universes, etc. In short, I want any genre where an appreciation of history is necessary to truly enjoy the story. Any form of media is acceptable whether its books, films, TV, games, comics, podcasts or other media. That said, if you are submitting something to promote a book or story, the submission should be more than just a plot summary.
I do NOT want historical fiction. Fictional characters and places are not enough to make something alternate history. I do NOT want conspiracy theories, secret history, ancient aliens, holocaust denial or any kind of trutherism. Keep that Alex Jones nonsense away from me. I do NOT want future history. I want changes to the past, not predictions of the future...unless your alternate history is technically set in the future, then I am okay with that.
When in doubt, remember alternate history is considered by many to be a sub-genre of science fiction.
I reserve the right to reject anything that may be offensive or obscene to my followers. Swearing and references to sex and drugs is okay, but anything too graphic will be rejected. Politics and religion is okay (history is full of it) as long as it is presented in a fair and neutral manner. Anything that promotes an ideology or belief as being superior to all others will be rejected. Same thing goes for anything racist, sexist, homophobic, etc.
In short, be respectful to others and I will respect you.
And remember: these are just guidelines. I am willing to bend and even break them if I think your idea is interesting enough.
An Incomplete List of Unacceptable Guest Posts (Based on Real Proposals I Received)
- An article complaining about a recent ban from an alternate history forum/group.
- A PowerPoint presentation that you want me to turn into a guest post for you.
- Anything relying heavily on the "works" of David Irving.
